FILM: 'THE REVENANT' Trailer Stars Leonardo DiCaprio from the director of 'BIRDMAN'

If anything is certain, Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu is able to create an experiential understanding of what a film looks and sounds like. In last year's 'Birdman,' Michael Keaton portrayed what it was like to be a washed up superhero trying to redefine himself.

Inarritu's new film tackles survival in the wilderness. 

As real as this trailer plays out, there's a sense of transcendence and power with which Inarritu directs. Not everything is as it seems, and it results in a psychedelic study of the audience.

Nevertheless, Leonardo DiCaprio is still on the hunt for that first Oscar and who knows, Inarritu's latest film could be the catalyst for him to earn it.

The plot summary is as follows

Inspired by true events, THE REVENANT captures one man's epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.
