WATCH: THE BEST TRAILERS FROM COMIC-CON 2016 - FT. 'JUSTICE LEAGUE', 'DOCTOR STRANGE' & MORE
DC, Marvel and all the rest attempted to make us wet with excitement this San Diego Comic-Con. They have succeeded.
If you’re a fan of superheroes and anything superhero related, then Comic-Con is the place to be. Unfortunately, if you’re like me then there’s a good chance that there is no way in hell that you’ll ever attend, because like, moneys and I live in Australia. Luckily the internet allows us to reap in the gloriousness of trailers and boy was this year an amazing one.
Justice League
This was the big one. The one that the fans were waiting for and it did not disappoint. As a fan of Batman V Superman and it’s even better Ultimate Cut, expectations have never been higher.
The trailer is a brilliant showcase of the studio listening to the fans. After the dark movie that Batman V Superman was, they have opted for a lighter tone overall while still maintaining the dark undertone, and that is what I believe will propel this movie towards great success. Combine that with the outstanding costuming and perfect music and this movie is a blockbuster already.
Noticeably absent is Superman, who will in fact return forthe film, but as of this stage it’s hard to say how he’ll do so. The main villain remains under wraps but I’m sure we'll be seeing the big baddie in the next trailer.
Wonder Woman
Another home run. There’s not much to say besides the fact that it’s almost the perfect trailer. The WW1 setting is amazing, the action seamlessly integrated with the set pieces to create a dynamic environment. Wonder Woman’s costume nicely contrasts the otherwise grey and brown backdrops. Chris Pine and Gal Gadot shine as the leads. Also it’s only a minor thing but I’m super glad they kept the Wonder Woman music they used in Batman V Superman because it was bloody amazing.
The LEGO Batman Movie
Easily the funniest trailer released at Comic-Con, The LEGO Batman Movie actually looks amazing. I don't think anyone, including myself expected this film to be anything more than a money maker rather than a worthy trip to the cinema. After the surprise hit that was The LEGO Movie, it was no wonder that they would expand the franchise and they’ve done so in the best way. Brimming with charm and wit, the movie will no doubt be a hit with both kids and adults alike.
Doctor Strange
Benedict Cumberbatch shows us once again that he can do anything. If you weren’t hyped for this movie before, you will be now. It’s basically superhero Inception and it works, especially when you add the classic Marvel charm to it. “What’s this, my mantra? No its the Wi-Fi password. We aren’t savages”. The effects are next level. From the stunning landscapes to the manipulation of cities, everything looks astonishing. Also there is nothing cooler than when he swung his cape around, NOTHING.
Marvel's Luke Cage
When I first heard they were making a Luke Cage show, I was skeptical because while the character was good in Jessica Jones, I didn’t think he could carry a whole series on his own back. I was wrong.
If the show comes close to this teaser, then it’ll be great. It takes the beautiful action of Daredevil and sets it to some dope music and shows off the machine that is Luke Cage. Granted the story was vague in the trailer, but this is definitely a show to keep an eye on.
Legion
I didn't know much about Legion, but lucky for you guys I've now done my research. Legion follows David Haller, a person that, unlike most people, actually believes he is crazy. However, what he doesn't know is that his psychiatrist is secretly uncovering Haller's powers as a mutant.
Legion could have been terrible, but under the channel FX it looks wildly different compared to all the other Marvel series that we've been looking at. There's a lot of potential so I hope the story can keep up with the great action.
Setin the X-men universe and brought to television by the mind of Fargo, it’s definitely something to pay attention to.
Iron Fist
The Defenders
Other Notable Trailers
Kong: Skull Island
King Kong is back and bigger than ever. Literally bigger than ever. Like he’s huge. Like fucking enormous but I’ll stop now cause I think you get the point. With an amazing cast of Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman and John C. Reilly, this movie has no excuse in terms of acting to not be good. I’m hoping they don’t pull a Godzilla where the trailer looks amazing the actual monster gets like 20 minutes of screen time. I need me some big ass gorilla kicking some butt.
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword
From just watching the trailer and not knowing anything else, you would be easily able to tell it was a Guy Ritchie film. His signature style is all over it. Extreme close up running shots, fast cut storytelling and of course slow motion action. Honestly I’m excited though. I enjoyed his Sherlock Holmes movies and The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and am definitely going to check this out when it hits cinemas.
