WATCH: ‘BEAUTY AND THE BEAST' TEASER HAS NO BEAST; JUST EMMA WATSON AND A RED ROSE
“What if she’s the one?”
The first teaser trailer for Disney’s live-action ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is finally here, giving us a tantalising glimpse of Emma Watson as Belle. But where is The Beast?
Let’s be real, we probably won’t see him for several months, but that still won’t put a damper on the excitement.
The trailer opens with a snow-filled shot of an imposing mansion, which takes us into a majestic ballroom with glittering chandeliers and light filtering through the windows. Music acts as a subtle leitmotif, allowing nearly imperceptible transitions of cobwebs and long-deserted rooms catching dust.
The camera leads us to a close-up of a portrait of a woman, presumably Belle, when claw marks suddenly tear through the canvas.
Damn, this trailer is done right. What makes it so successful is that it’s not afraid to reveal just enough to keep us on our toes, knowingly teasing us into submission, with only glimpses of the characters’ disembodied dialogue, which is spoken in darkness. This leaves much to the imagination, with viewers and characters alike wondering, “What if she is the one?”
As if on cue, Watson’s distinctive voice is carried through the darkness, with a “Hello?” She appears behind a red rose, a gorgeous first reveal of her character Belle, who reaches out for it with curiosity…
There have been countless adaptations of ‘Beauty and the Beast’ over the past century and this certainly isn’t the first Disney has attempted. Many of our childhoods have been influenced by Disney’s classic animation from the 90s, which had us all swooning at the complex romance between Belle and The Beast. With Bill Condon directing this one, we have high hopes that this is the re-imagined fairytale we are all waiting for.
‘Beauty and the Beast’ will be in cinemas in March 2017.
Synopsis from IMDB:
