LISTEN: ALICIA KEYS' 'IN COMMON' SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE ALICIA KEYS
Alicia Keys' new single sets aside her strong vocals, hopping on the back of Rihanna and Drake's success with Caribbean pop, afrobeats and featherlight dancehall. It doesn't quite feel like the Alicia Keys we've come to know and love.
This 15 time Grammy winner is showing where the intersection of R&B and pop music are moving towards in 2016. And if this first song is any indication, Alicia is going with the flow.
Sad thing is 'In Common' is too ordinary, too similar to what Rihanna and Drake have been putting out for months. The chorus nice for listening to on an evening train home from uni, and it certainly is a good song, but a part of me wants to see Keys differentiate herself more if she is going with the trend.
Alicia Keys will drop a new album later this year. Hopefully It will feature more originality on her end rather than recycle what's hot right now.
