WATCH: BASICK’S ‘NICE’ IS F*ING NICE FEAT. G2 AND HWASA (FROM MAMAMOO)
G2 and MAMAMOO's Hwasa feature in this expensive-looking MV that plays out more like a tourism commercial.
Nice is your summer feel-good hit for the warmer months that stubbornly refuse to come – and looking at the pouring rain in Sydney, probably never will...
Basick pulls off a playful collaboration with underground rapper G2 and Hwasa of R&B girl group MAMAMOO, drawing upon the beach aesthetic and a colourful blend of Korean hip hop, soul and pop influences. Though his lyrics may be shallow and repetitively echo the ‘niceness of everything’ whilst inviting listeners to “move yo body”, the message rings true in a crisp music video that’s easy on the eyes and shows us how much fun the trio are having at an island resort.
Featuring a compilation of gorgeous natural scenery, Nice impresses with its birds-eye-view shots of a shimmering pool, sublime underwater shots of Hwasa swimming, aerial shots of Basick skydiving and incredible scenes of Hwasa bathed in the orange glow of a coastal sunset.
Okay, so it’s more of a tourism commercial than a music video. And you may wonder why they thought playing pool on an island paradise would be a great idea (seriously, did they have nothing better to do?!), or if those lingering shots of Hwasa’s breasts were necessary. At the end of the day, Nice doesn’t try to be something it’s not because it knows it’s simply a song that celebrates the joy of summer vacations. And it owns it.
In the meantime, I guess we won’t be experiencing “fucking nice” anytime soon. Sigh.
