WATCH: 'GUARDIANS' IS THE RUSSIAN 'AVENGERS' YOU DIDN'T KNOW YOU NEEDED
The Russians have a long (and highly contested) history of ripping off American ideas. Guardians (Zaschitniki), aka the Russian Avengers, is just that.
The director of American Heist, Sarik Andreasyan, brings you the all-too-familiar story of super secret superheroes created for one purpose: to defend the motherland. A minigun wielding werebear, a chick with glowing tattoos, a man who can make rocks fly and another guy with some hectic curved blades are brought together to “stop a supervillain”.
The trailer is really just a compilation of (admittedly) epic action scenes, some meaningful gazes off into the distance and quick cutaways to shots of a ruined city. But I don’t really get a sense of what the story is actually about, let alone whether it will be any different to every other Marvel movie.
So far, all I understand is that is one of those rare occasions where the Russians aren’t the bad guys and New York isn’t destroyed. I really hope Guardians will have more character development and a stronger plot line than what the trailer suggests.
