WATCH: EMMA STONE SINGS TO RYAN GOSLING IN 'LA LA LAND' TRAILER
This is by far the most elegantly produced trailer I’ve ever seen. Director, Damien Chazelle, brings old-school romance into modern-day Los Angeles, and proves that there is still a place for classical musicals.
Emma Stone's heart-wrenching performance of Audition, an original song written for the musical weaves through the trailer, and perfectly encapsulates the plight of lovelorn artists. Beautiful dance sequences waltz us through the collision of love and ambition between an aspiring actress (Emma Stone) and jazz musician (Ryan Gosling). Gosling and Stone have been love interests in the past (in Crazy, Stupid, Love and Gangster Squad), but never before has their romance been this beautiful.
Their relationship is set against the backdrop of soft, surreal scenes of Los Angeles, which are in perfect synchronicity with the poignant love ballad underpinning the trailer. ‘She captured a feeling/Sky with no ceiling’ weaves through a dreamy scene of Stone and Gosling swirling through the planetarium. I just can’t get over the absolute beauty of it all.
La La Land has already captured my heart and I can't wait to see it when it comes out on 2 December 2016.
